Global Artivism Month is a new annual global mobilization: an open invitation for artists, collectives, cultural organizations and communities everywhere to organize their own creative action in November and be counted as part of one worldwide movement.

What is Global Artivism Month?

The most visible moment of the Global Artivism movement, a Global South and Global Majority-led movement for cultural power for social change. It runs across November and closes on 10 December, Human Rights Day. It grew out of the Global Artivism Convenings in Pretoria in 2024 and Salvador da Bahia in 2025, the second of which gathered more than 1,000 people in person and hundreds more online from 86 countries.

The ambition for the inaugural edition is to reach more than 100 countries; the long-term aspiration is United Nations recognition of an International Day of Artivism. Three pillars carry it: Global Majority-led; powered by arts and culture; for a safe and just world.

How does it work?

The model is open source. The movement does not organize the activities. It issues an invitation and provides a shared identity, practical resources and a common communications platform, while participants organize their own actions and keep full ownership of them. Taking part is free, the movement does not fund activities, and joining is a registration through the Participation Form rather than an application: no jury, only a short Terms and Conditions document.

The organizing idea is the Sunrise Relay. Each day of November the spotlight travels with the sun: a region opens the day, hosts a day of local activity and passes the relay onward at dusk, while a daily dispatch and a shared digital space and mosaic knit the days into one visible global story.

There are three ways of taking part: witness, host, create. And two ways of making the month possible: support and partner.
