Artists Changing the World features inspiring keynotes panels with artists of diverse backgrounds coming from all over the world. We feature inspiring speakers who can address several topics related to their region and context they work in and to hear from them how/if art can generate positive change in the world and can be spaces of resistance. It gives an in-depth insight into the social, economic, political context of the region the artists are active in.

This 'Artists Changing the World' session was part of our 15th edition of the Festival Academy’s Atelier for Young Festival Managers from 23 - 29 March 2019 in Malta. It took place on 23 March at 6.30 pm CEST/Valletta Time.

Shahidul Alam, reclaimed Bangladesh photographer and initiator of the first photography festival, Chobi Mela, in Asia, challenged the minds of festival managers and guests with his opening provocation to mark the start of the 15th Atelier for Young Festival Managers running from 23-29 March 2019 in Valletta. Alam openly shared his story, experience, and ongoing pursuit for social justice through media, education and culture, even in most harsh contexts, demonstrating the power of arts, community involvement and festivals as platforms for social change, resistance and possible ‘Spaces of Dissent’.
