The Atelier Eleusis offered the opportunity to 25 Greek festival managers to spend 3 days together with festival directors, artists and cultural professionals from Greece and abroad.

Introduction

The main purpose of this initiative is to strengthen the Greek festival scene, to analyse the scene and define the key issues related to festivals and cultural organisations in Greece today, to encourage networking and collaboration and to formulate what support is needed from this point forward and which actions can be undertaken.  This is taking place in the framework of long term strategy of the 2030 horizon of Eleusis 2021 and will be followed by a second edition in 2020 and an (international) Atelier for Young Festival Managers to take place during the Cultural Capital in 2021.

This Atelier brought together about 25 selected Greek festival makers from different art disciplines and from different parts in Greece to take part in a conversation about today’s challenges and the role art and culture can play in these. Participants had the chance to broaden their programming skills, widen their horizons and develop new project ideas under your guidance. They compared their views with colleagues from various cultural and professional backgrounds and analysed them in view of the local context of Elefsina

We were delighted to have had amongst us: Mike Van Graan (Founding President African Cultural Policy Network - South Africa) who facilitated the programme and the following mentors and speakers present throughout the 3 days: Mark Ball (Creative Director of Manchester International Festival - United Kingdom), Kelly Diapouli (Artistic Director Eleusis 2021 European Capital of Culture - Greece), Vigdis Jakobsdottir (Artistic Director and CEO Reykjavik Arts Festival - Iceland), Yolanda Markopoulou, (Co-founder & Curator mind the fact,  line producer major cultural institutions  – Greece ) and Frosyni Trousa, (Artistic Director of ARC for DANCE Festival - Greece).
